About the Attorney and Staff

Attorney John K. White, Jr.

John K. White, Jr. is an Asheville native.  After attending high school at T.C. Roberson, he studied political science and economics at Duke University.  In 2002, John graduated from Duke with distinction in political science. Following college, John attended law school at Columbia University in New York.  During law school, John participated in Columbia's Small Business/Non-Profit Clinic, learning to help entrepreneurs and community advocates start their own businesses and charities.  He also volunteered with the Unemployment Action Center representing unemployment insurance claimants who had been wrongly denied benefits.

After law school, John practiced for almost seven years as a litigation associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, LLP.  During his last two years at Milbank Tweed, John focused on litigating and mediating disputes over complex derivatives transactions in the context of the In re Lehman Brothers bankruptcy case.   He also worked on a broad range of other litigation and arbitration matters that included: internal investigations arising in connection with shareholder demand letters; a breach of fiduciary duty suit against the former officers and directors of a corporation in bankruptcy; investigations of a broker-dealer by the Securities and Exchange Commission and a regional stock exchange; the securities class action In re Flag Telecom; and the arbitration of a $100+ million dispute over the pricing of liquefied natural gas under long term supply contracts.

John's ethical training during law school and experience working at Milbank Tweed instilled in him a firm conviction that the practice of law should be focused on the needs and interests of clients.  Moreover, John believes an attorney best serves his clients by acting as a counselor at law who takes the time to truly understand his clients' need and concerns.  John started his own practice with this philosophy in mind.  In doing so, John sought to build a practice that delivers excellent client services on broad range of matters and fosters a long-term professional relationships with clients.  

Paralegal Susan Floyd

Susan Floyd is from a military family and has lived in many places across the US and in Germany.  After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in English, she moved to Georgia to begin her paralegal career.  She has worked as a real estate paralegal doing title work and real estate closings in Albany, Atlanta and Athens, Georgia, as well as in the corporate sector with Fannie Mae in Atlanta.  She came to Asheville in 2002 and has worked as a real estate closing paralegal since then.  She happily joined Mr. White in his practice in 2015. Ms. Floyd is a North Carolina Notary Public.

Paralegal Kayla Plemmons

Kayla Plemmons is an Asheville native and graduate of T.C. Roberson High School ('07). She received an  degree in Paralegal Studies from South College in 2013. She has worked in the legal field since 2013, and has focused on real estate and estate planning.  Ms. Plemmons joined our office in May of 2017 and is a North Carolina Notary Public.

Legal Assistant Jennifer Emery

Jennifer Emery is also an Asheville native.  Ms. Emery has worked in real estate for over 20 years and is a licensed North Carolina Real Estate Broker. She joined Mr. White in his practice in 2013 and is a North Carolina Notary Public.
